Delhi - The Host City

A City State with a State of mind!

Delhi, the capital of India, is a city of many faces and shades. Here history brushes shoulders with modernity quite casually, and this endows the modern city with an ancient soul with a unique appeal. This city of myriad charms has allured and enticed many emperors and adventurers, poets and traveler, saints and revelers, builders and gamblers over the course of centuries.

The city, or rather the seven cities of Delhi prior to Lutyens Delhi (New Delhi) had also witnessed the rise and fall of many empires, and the status of the capital of India sits quite fittingly on this city state, with a state of mind. The majestic monuments in Delhi reflect its rich, glorious and troubled past in stones for you to see and also hear. Cruel time has forced some of these mighty monuments and forts to compromise their grandeur, but even in their ruins, they manage to whisper their long lost glories.

Yet Delhi is in many ways the essence of modern India, with its startling paradox of old and new, foreign and familiar. And it remains the best starting point for exploring North India, not only because of its excellent transport connections and sophisticated infrastructure, but because the history of Delhi, one of the oldest cities in the world, is essentially the history of India.

Besides its glorious history and diverse culture of over two millenia, this city has a modernized and vibrant side too. The city is famous for its boutiques and shopping arcades that offers a convenient access to a wealth of traditional and contemporary crafts of the country. Any journey is incomplete without a bit of retail therapy and a trip to Delhi is indeed your time to indulge in hedonistic materialism. From the flea markets in Janpath to luxurious malls in South and West Delhi, Delhi is a shoppers' paradise.

Delhi, along with its National Capital Region (NCR) around it, has emerged as one of top MICE destination in South Asia. It boasts of a plethora of Convention and Conference centers with high-tech facilities matching global standards.
